Following planning approval at the end of 2025 we are now getting ready to begin the first phase of the regeneration. This involves dismantling the former Chorlton Cross Shopping Centre and Graeme House buildings.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The first step will be the closure of the precinct car park, which will shut at the end of May 2026. We will then install new hoardings around the site. This means that the cut-through between Manchester Road and Nicolas Road will be closed to both pedestrians and vehicles from this point.
Where possible, materials from the existing buildings will be reused during construction of the new neighbourhood. This will help reduce the number of vehicles needed to remove materials from the site.
Keeping local people safe and minimising disruption is our top priority. Demolition work is expected to begin in mid-June and will complete during August. Our demolition contractor will carefully manage noise, dust and vibration throughout the work:
• Spraying fine water mist to reduce dust
• Using dust control equipment on machinery
• Monitoring noise and vibration levels throughout the project
At this stage, noise and vibration levels are not expected to cause significant disruption to nearby residents or businesses.
The demolition work will be carried out by SJ Walchester.
